George Vreeland Hill: I'm Running For Beverly Hills City Council
Yesterday (12-7-12), I pulled papers at City Hall to run for a seat on the Beverly Hills City Council.
There was a lot of information that was covered at my meeting in the office of City Clerk and there is a lot more to do.
Next up is getting 30 signatures and formulating a plan that leads to victory on March 5th, 2013.
I have the utmost respect for the members of the council, but I feel that I can and will be an even bigger voice of the people and bring a level of accountability to the table that has been somewhat lacking in the past.
While I do not point fingers and never will, I do believe that money can be better spent and allocated to the point where our schools are not in debt and where waste such as spending millions on an initial wasted plan for Roxbury Park can be avoided.
I believe that there is too much red tape in our laws to the point where it sometimes gets confusing to people and business.
Some have been hurt because laws are not made clear.
I believe in putting things in as simple terms as possible so everyone knows where they stand.
The language that attorneys understand may not be what you understand.
There is an issue of fire prevention and roofs that has been going on for far too long.
I believe that making the home owners of Beverly Hills put new fire resistant roofs on their homes was going way too far.
It has been expensive for some people and has hurt some financially.
I do not believe that homes near Olympic Boulevard are in the same fire danger as those near Sunset Blvd.
I have voiced my opinion about Metro and its plans for a tunnel under BHHS.
I am very much against that tunnel.
There has been too much confusion about whether it is safe or not to put such a tunnel under the school.
Metro has hidden a number of facts and has put incomplete studies on the table.
Such incompetence cannot be tolerated when it comes to the safety of our children.
Also, in case you have been living on Mars recently, there were two earthquakes in Beverly Hills.
That is a concern to me in regards to Metro's plans.
I have a great deal more to say and I will speak more in the coming days and weeks because I love Beverly Hills.
Our history is glorious and our future can be made better.
I put the people first because it is after all, our city.
I listen to the people because as Ronald Reagan once said, "The best minds are not in government."
Thank you.
